Blackpool BID is delighted to confirm that dates have been announced for this year’s World Fireworks Championship Blackpool – one of the resort’s biggest autumn crowd-pullers and a major boost for tourism and town centre footfall.
Three competing countries will light up the night sky across three Saturdays this autumn: 12th September, 26th September and 10th October.
For our members, this is more than a spectacle – it’s three guaranteed nights of increased visitor numbers on the Promenade, with knock-on benefits for hospitality, retail and leisure businesses across the town centre. Each display is free to attend, synchronised to music and launched from the beach in front of Blackpool Tower, drawing residents and visitors alike into the heart of Blackpool.
The competing countries for 2026 will be announced in the coming months, and we’ll keep members updated as soon as details are confirmed so businesses can plan accordingly.
Cllr Lynn Williams MBE, Leader of Blackpool Council, said:
“World Fireworks Championship Blackpool is a standout highlight of our autumn programme. We look forward to welcoming thousands of people to the Promenade to enjoy these spectacular free family events. They continue to be hugely popular with both residents and visitors, and we can’t wait to bring this magnificent showcase back to the seafront later this year.”
The championship is one of several major events driving footfall into Blackpool this year. A Blackpool Tourism Limited spokesperson confirmed it forms a key part of the town’s major events calendar, alongside the Blackpool Air Show on 8th–9th August, Ride The Lights from 1 September, the Illuminations Switch-On celebration on 4th September, and Lightpool Festival from 21st–31st October.
Blackpool BID encourages members to factor these dates into staffing, stock and marketing plans, as each event typically brings a significant uplift in visitors to the town centre. We’ll be sharing further guidance on maximising trade around the championship nearer the time.
