Showtown Brings Strictly Sparkle to Life with a Behind-the-Scenes Conservation Showcase

Blackpool is set to shimmer even brighter this November as Showtown invites visitors to discover the hidden world behind some of TV’s most dazzling outfits.

As the nation gears up for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing to return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom, the museum is celebrating in its own sparkling style with a brand-new conservation showcase: ‘Strictly Conservation’.

Running from Tuesday, 18th to Sunday, 23rd November, this special event gives visitors the chance to step “behind the seams” and see exactly what it takes to keep Strictly’s famous costumes looking ready for the dancefloor long after their last twirl.

For one week only, Showtown’s temporary exhibition space transforms into a working conservation studio, where the museum’s expert team will be caring for original dresses worn on the show.

Included with museum entry, this rare behind-the-scenes experience offers a front-row view of the delicate cleaning, repair and preservation work that keeps these iconic creations performance-ready. Visitors will see conservation specialists tending to gowns worn by some of Strictly’s most recognisable star, including professional dancer Katya Jones, 2018 champion Stacey Dooley, and Joanne Clifton’s Blackpool ballgown from 2016.

With each costume covered in intricate detail, from thousands of sequins to custom stitching, every stage of the team’s work reveals something new about how these garments are made, maintained and treasured. Guests will also have the chance to ask the team questions and learn more about the specialist techniques used to preserve these remarkable pieces of dance history.

The showcase complements Showtown’s permanent Dance Gallery, where visitors can explore more original Strictly Come Dancing costumes and discover the creative process behind them from celebrated costume designer Vicky Gill.

If you’re passionate about museums, love the craftsmanship of costume design or simply can’t get enough of Strictly sparkle, ‘Strictly Conservation’ offers a unique opportunity to see these stunning outfits in a way few people ever do.

‘Strictly Conservation’ runs from Tuesday, 18th to Sunday, 23rd November, excluding Friday, November 21st.

Tickets are available online at www.showtown.co.uk.
