Keep On Keepin’ On, a Northern Soul comedy, is coming to Blackpool Central Library from Wednesday, 28th to Saturday, 31st May.
Written and directed by Mick Martin, the play follows Eugene, a man struggling to keep his Northern Soul-themed shop afloat while dealing with family issues. When his ex-lover Maxine returns with a request that upends his world, Eugene finds himself in a whirlwind of chaos.
The production will first tour Crewe and Blackburn before concluding in Blackpool. Sponsored by Town Centre Blackpool BID, this immersive show offers a lively mix of humour, heart, and music, while also sparking vital conversations about the future of high streets and independent retailers. The Central Library will be transformed into Eugene’s shop for a one-of-a-kind experience.
Mick Martin explains, “Keep On Keepin’ On is about the modern-day Northern Soul scene and the changing faces of the towns that spawned it. It’s a play about now, family and love, about people struggling to keep it together in these dark and straitened times at the working-class coalface of dysfunctional northern Britain.
“That’s why we want to bring it to high street spaces rather than traditional theatre venues. We’re hoping that, in each town on our tour, the play helps to start conversations with their communities and brings new audiences to the theatre and the high street.”
For local businesses in Blackpool, there is an exclusive 50% discount on tickets, helping to bring the community together through this thought-provoking and engaging performance.
