BBC Radio Lancashire announced as official partner for Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On event

It’s just been announced that BBC Radio Lancashire will be this year’s official partner for the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On event.

BBC Radio Lancashire’s breakfast presenter Graham Liver will be the host alongside the station’s daytime presenter Sharon Hartley.

More details will be released over the summer about the event line up for the big switch-on, which will take place on Friday 4th September.

Kate Shane from Blackpool Tourism said: “Linking up with the BBC is going to give us extra sparkle. We close the prom down and we get a lot of people into our arena and then we start the entertainment, a bit of local talent and then build up to the acts.”

“And then that famous switch-on moment when the lever goes down, the fireworks go off and the promenade lights up!”

The illuminations, which first began in 1897, now uses more than one million bulbs across the entire 6-mile display that runs from Starr Gate, at the south end of town near Squires Gate, to Red Bank Road in Bispham.
